This Privacy Policy explains what information Black Journal collects in connection with BLKJ, how it is used, and your choices. Black Journal offers BLKJ in two ways, described separately below: as locally-run software you install and operate yourself ("Local Software"), and as a hosted, account-based web application operated by Black Journal ("Web App"). Sections 3 through 5 describe the Local Software. Sections 6 through 9 describe the Web App. If you use both, both sets of sections apply to the respective version.
The Local Software does not communicate with any Black Journal server. As a result, Black Journal does not collect, receive, or store any of the following on Black Journal's own systems when you use the Local Software:
This is a function of the Local Software's architecture specifically. Sections 6 through 9 describe what Black Journal collects if you instead use, or also use, the Web App.
BLKJ's Local Software stores your configuration, including your custom rules, stakes, probability zones, journal entries, and any profile information you optionally enter (such as a display name or email address), in your web browser's local storage on your own device.
Your Kalshi API Key ID and private key are stored separately from your browser, in a local configuration file on the same device, used by BLKJ's local proxy component to authenticate directly with Kalshi on your behalf. Neither your browser's local storage nor this local configuration file is transmitted to Black Journal. Clearing your browser's local storage, deleting this local configuration file, or uninstalling BLKJ, will delete the corresponding information.
You can export your own trade journal at any time as a CSV file directly from the Local Software. This export happens entirely on your device and is not sent to Black Journal.
The Local Software connects directly from your device to Kalshi's own API in order to display market data and place trades at your direction. Your interaction with Kalshi is governed by Kalshi's own privacy policy and terms, not this Policy. Black Journal does not receive a copy of the data exchanged between your device and Kalshi.
The Local Software does not use cookies, web beacons, or third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
If you create an account and use the Web App, Black Journal collects the following:
Administrative access is limited. Black Journal personnel who administer the Web App can view and manage account-level fields only, your name, email address, account number, and subscription plan and status, in order to provide customer support, apply discounts, and upgrade, downgrade, cancel, or close accounts at your request. They may also view aggregate, de-identified system metrics used to monitor and improve BLKJ. They do not access your password, your Kalshi credentials, or the contents of your dashboard, your journal entries, or your individual trading activity. Administrative actions are recorded in an internal audit log.
Credentials never reach Black Journal's servers: Even on the Web App, your Kalshi API credentials are used only within your own browser session to communicate directly with Kalshi. Black Journal does not receive, collect, or store your Kalshi API key or private key at any point.
The Web App uses cookies or similar technology strictly necessary to keep you logged in and to maintain your session.
Black Journal retains your Web App account data for as long as your account remains active. If you close your account, Black Journal will retain your data for 90 days to allow for reactivation, after which it will be permanently deleted, except where retention is required by law (for example, financial records needed for tax or compliance purposes). Canceling your subscription without closing your account simply moves you to the free tier; your account and data are retained while your account remains open. You may request earlier deletion of your account data by contacting support@blkj.ai.
The Web App communicates with Kalshi's API and with Black Journal's payment processor to provide its functionality. Each of these third parties has its own privacy policy governing the information it receives.
Black Journal uses encryption in transit (such as HTTPS/TLS) for data sent to and from the Web App, and takes commercially reasonable measures intended to protect stored data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and Black Journal cannot guarantee absolute security. For the Local Software, the security of your locally-stored configuration and credentials depends significantly on the security of your own device and browser.
If Black Journal becomes aware of a security breach affecting your personal information stored on its servers, Black Journal will notify affected users without unreasonable delay and in accordance with applicable law.
BLKJ is not directed to, and is not intended for use by, anyone under the age of 18. Black Journal does not knowingly collect information from minors.
Black Journal may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, particularly as BLKJ's architecture evolves. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date.
